In recent years there has been a lot of talk about the extent to which communication technologies have been used to propagate racist and xenophobic contents. However, the new media holds not only many risks, but also many great possibilities for those who fight against racism and xenophobia. The media, in particular the modern mass media does undoubtedly mirror more or less voluntarily, critically and at times even distortingly the current forms of racism and exclusion in a society. In this context, however, it is of utmost importance to not only critically question the stereotypes, resentments and racisms prevalent but also simultaneously draw attention to new ways of using the possibilities of communication. D-A-S-H wants to provide the necessary means for groups and initiatives - and particularly those, who volunteer their time and energy in the fight against racism and right wing extremism in order to publish their contents and activities, to exchange their experiences and to network against racism.
What kind of support does D-A-S-H offer?
D-A-S-H offers support on four different levels. First and foremost, D-A-S-H wants to faciliate the access to material and resources available in the internet. Apart from that on a regular basis workshops and seminars are organised. Their purpose is to bring together and hook up active groups. D-A-S-H also offers technical support to groups and campaigns who want to realize their own web sites or online strategies. Last but not least, D-A-S-H supports creative and innovative projects which are selected and presented under the titel "best practice" once a week. In Germany D-A-S-H even financially supports such projects.
What does D-A-S-H cost me?
D-A-S-H supports groups at no charge. Whether D-A-S-H is asked to provide an email address, a mailing list or content management systems: D-A-S-H is interested in supporting the active involvement of young people against racism and right wing extremism without any commercial motives and without trying to exert any unwanted influence.
Does D-A-S-H embed any commercial advertising?
D-A-S-H offers services that are free from any commercial advertisements. All software used and offered by D-A-S-H is open source software and free from ads and contents which are not explicitly wanted.
How can D-A-S-H pay for itself?
D-A-S-H is financially supported by the European Union and the German ministry of family, seniors, women and youth. That way we can We can develop offers and tools that meet the needs of active groups and initiatives. At the same time the services we offer are continually and independently advanced by those who actively use it.
Whom does D-A-S-H support?
D-A-S-H supports young people who are or want to get actively involved in fighting racism and right wing extremism. We support groups and campaigns as well as individuals, who use the so called new but also the so called old media to present their view of the world, to exchange experiences and informations and to network across existing borders.
Does D-A-S-H provide financial support for new projects?
Every year D-A-S-H Germany supports about a dozen of projects that use the media in their fight against racism and xenophobia in an exemplary way. The projects supported by D-A-S-H either serve as educational models or test new forms of communication in the internet or are merely the beginning of further projects with long term impact. Applications are always welcome and deadlines are announced in the D-A-S-H newsletter.
How can I get up to date information about D-A-S-H?
At least once a month D-A-S-H publishes a newsletter, to which about one thousand groups and individuals have subscribed.
